If you want to experience the best of Austin new and old, head over to Threadgill’s at one of its two convenient locations. The legendary restaurant offers a Southern comfort, home cooked meals, and live music 365 days a year! Famous for being the place where Janis Joplin first developed her sound, Threadgill’s has been a temporary home to many musicians throughout the years. Stop by for one of many live shows and you may be witnessing music history in the making! And that's not their only claim to fame – the North Austin location, the original Threadgill’s, has bragging rights as owning the first beer license in the county.
The South Austin location, “Threadgill’s World Headquarters,” hosts a family-friendly beer garden as well as a Sunday Gospel Brunch. At both Threadgill's locations they offer brunch on Sundays from 10 am – 1 pm and a “Howdy Hour,” Monday through Friday, from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. In addition, the North location also offers an additional happy hour Monday through Friday from 9 – 11 p.m. Totally loving Threadgill’s? The restaurant has an online store for all different kinds of restaurant merchandise including t-shirts and a cookbook.

If you’re looking for upscale dining that won’t give you an inferiority complex, Austin’s Wink is your best bet. Although the food prepared by chefs Mark Paul and Stewart Scruggs is incredibly vivid, flavorful and innovative, Wink works hard to keep its menu accessible and comfortable as well. Their mission has paid off, and local foodies have nothing but glowing reviews of this place. Using only the best sustainably-sourced ingredients, signature dishes include the magnificent sweetbreads, delicious truffled macaroni & cheese, and flavorful, moist duck breast. The dining room is small— extremely small—so be warned, you might make some new friends while you dine, but the service is so welcoming that you won’t even notice the slightly cramped surroundings. Drop by the adjoining wine bar for reasonably priced appetizers and wonderful wine from the Wink’s impressive cellar.
